Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)
Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a skills-based training course designed for employers, first responders, hospital staff, law enforcement, and caring individuals. It teaches participants how to identify, understand, and respond to signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges in adults aged 18 and over. Using a proven five-step action plan, the training covers:
-
Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, psychosis, and addictions
-
Common signs and symptoms of substance use challenges
-
How to approach and support someone experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis
-
How to connect a person to appropriate professional help
-
Expanded content on trauma, self-care, and recovery supports
Mental Health First Aid doesn’t train you to be a therapist—it teaches you how to listen, reassure, and respond confidently, including in a crisis. The course empowers individuals to take action early and potentially prevent a crisis from escalating.
