Give a voice to youth quietly battling mental health challenges
SpeakUp5K is hosted by the Cameron K. Gallagher (CKG) Foundation in partnership with Dominion Payroll.
RUN or WALK with us!
Run, walk, or push your stroller along the course- this fun run will be encouraging and silly with no judgments! Visit fun stations along the way and the inspiring “Quote Alley”, before crossing the finish line!
Can’t walk or run? Show teens you are listening! BE A VOLUNTEER or SPONSOR!
Your sponsorship or being a volunteer on race day shows support and lets youth know they can speak up about their struggles, and that the community will listen. Sarah Ann Jennings, Development Coordinator: firstname.lastname@example.org
Cameron K. Gallagher, a teenager from Richmond, VA, struggled with depression and anxiety and felt she and her peers shouldn’t be ashamed or hide their mental health challenges. Before her sudden and tragic passing from an undetected heart condition in 2014, Cameron developed a plan for a SpeakUp5k fun run. She wanted to tap into the positive, nurturing energy of the running community and encourage teens to SpeakUp about mental
health. 1 in 4 teens suffers from mental health issues, yet less than 33% speak up.
The launch of the SpeakUp5k race series brought together 3,500 residents in 2014 to fulfill Cameron’s dream in her hometown. Since
then, her message has spread from Richmond to Tampa and San Diego, where money raised from those races went directly back to the local community. We are proud to partner with Tennessee Voices for Children to help provide mental health resources to Nashville area teens.
